Ripley’s Aquarium Myrtle Beach- A Family Favorite!
Year after year the most popular Myrtle Beach attraction is Ripley’s Aquarium. Located at Broadway at the Beach, Ripley’s Aquarium is an impressive 85,000 square foot museum that features a large variety of marine life showcased in impressive and often interactive exhibits. One of the highlights of the museum is a 240-foot moving walkway through a 750,000 gallon fish tank that is filled with exotic fish, stingrays, sea turtles and even some large sharks! Kids especially enjoy the interactive exhibit, Friendship Flats, which is a shallow lagoon where kids can reach out and touch sting rays (if they choose) and Sea-For-Yourself Discovery Center, where kids can hold horseshoe crabs. There are plenty of fun and educational programs for kids of all ages and educators are available throughout the museum to answer any questions you or your children might have.
To see a stunning exhibit of brightly colored fish, head to the Indo-Pacific Coral Reef exhibit where thousands of colored fish from the tropical islands of the Pacific Ocean can be viewed through a large tank. The coral reefs are realistic replicas to capture the true beauty of the real coral reefs. Periodically, there are dive shows where divers go into the tank to hand feed the fish…and wave to you too.
A unique exhibit is the Rio Amazon which features species from the Amazon. Here you will see piranhas, poison dart frogs, freshwater stingrays, four-eyed fish among other species.
Guests of the Aquarium this summer are in for a treat. A dinosaur exhibit called Dinosaurs-When Giants Ruled! is a fun, interactive exhibit featured life-size fully animatronic animals and several hands-on activities to educate your kids on the prehistoric creatures.
Returning another year are the live mermaid shows. A hit with the little ones, mermaids swim daily through the large tanks and interact with the fish and the kids. The mermaid shows make for some great memories!
