If you will be visiting Myrtle Beach for Memorial Day, there are many other things to do while in town. All of the water parks in the area will be open, The Nascar Speedpark will also be open on Friday and Saturday from 11am-11pm. There is also a new attraction in Myrtle Beach; Myrtle Beach Adrenaline Adventures! This is a new zipline attraction in Myrtle Beach that allows you to speed through the air at speeds up to 60mph and then do a “free fall” at the end. This new Myrtle Beach zipline is located at the old Pavilion site at 9th Ave and Kings Hwy… you can’t miss it! One of the best parts about vacationing in Myrtle Beach for Memorial Day weekend is the affordable lodging available. Hotels in Myrtle Beach are easy to come by, but Springmaid Beach Resort has the most luxurious amenities with an oceanfront view at the best price! If you can’t make it out to the Stache Dash, be sure to at least attend the main event, the 15^th Annual BurroFest at Burro Loco. The celebration begins at 11:00 a.m. and doesn’t stop until 2:00 a.m. Live music will be from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. from The Sick Stooges, Sushi for Breakfast, No Limit and The Mullets. Of course, there will be plenty of good Mexican food, margaritas and beer served.

Burro Loco isn’t the only place having a fiesta for Cinco de Mayo in Myrtle Beach.  Nacho Hippo in The Market Common opened just in December of 2010 and already is considered one of the most popular Mexican hangout spots in Myrtle Beach. Offering everyday low drink specials like $3 fresh squeezed margaritas, Nacho Hippo is sure to be packed on Cinco de Mayo so be sure to get there early. Nacho Hippo opens at 11:30 a.m. and closes at 1:00 a.m. They will have live entertainment on Cinco de Mayo that you can enjoy while eating freshly prepared Mexican creations like their signature nachos or west-coast style tacos that feature a variety of unique combinations. We love the classic Baja Fish tacos with the spicy citrus mayo.

Tickets are $10 for festival grounds access which gives you basic access to the festival grounds, main stage and ArborOne Gourmet Village. With this pass, you can purchase food items as well as drinks by the glass. For those looking for a little more, you can purchase a $30 tasting tent entry which gives you all the basic access plus access to the MyrtleBeachHotels.com Hospitality Tent and Grand Tasting Tents where you can sample over 200 wines and craft beers plus have food from Louis’s at Sanford’s Southern Smokehouse. With this access, you will choose from three different tasting sessions that take place in the Grand Tasting Tent.  Access to all three tasting sessions is available for an additional fee.

The finale event is one event you don’t want to miss. The Food Fight & Finale Gala will take place Sunday, April 29th at 6 p.m. at the Festival Grounds at 8th Avenue North. Local chefs will be competing live in an “Iron Chef” style cooking competition. Celebrity chefs the Lee Brothers and Louis Osteen will be judges. Tickets are $50 each and also include food, beer, wine and spirits. There will also be a silent auction and wine wheel.

Looking for a more intimate wine experience? Throughout the week, local restaurants will feature a special tasting menu for $20.12. In addition, many fine area restaurants are hosting Beer, Wine and Spirits Dinners throughout the week where unique dinners and beverage pairings will be served. Participating restaurants are Abuelo’s, The Melting Pot, Gordon Biersch, The Brentwood, The Dunes Club, Croissants Bistro & Bakery and Thoroughbreds.  Ticket prices vary depending on the restaurant.

• Memorial Day Parade – Saturday, May 26^th from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Begins at 27^th Avenue North and continues to 9^th Avenue N. in downtown Myrtle Beach. The Grand Marshal will be Major General Robert E. Livingston, Jr., who is The Adjutant General of South Carolina.
• Military exhibits, family picnic and more – Saturday, May 26 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. following the parade at 9^th Avenue North. There will be activities for the kids, military exhibits, music and more.
• Memorial Day Ceremony – Monday, May 28^th on the Convention Center Plaza at 11:00 a.m.
• Military Appreciation Days Closing Ceremony – Monday, May 28^th at 5:00 p.m. at Valor Memorial Garden in The Market Common.

• Saturday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m.- Andrew Thielen Big Band

There are two Myrtle Beach farmers markets to choose from. Myrtle’s Market is located at 605 Mr. Joe White Avenue and is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Items that are typically available include: beans, beets, cabbage, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, turnip greens, lettuce, okra, onions, peanuts, bell peppers, potatoes, summer squash, tomatoes, turnips, zucchini, apples, cantaloupe, peaches, blueberries, strawberries, watermelon, flounder, shrimp, goat cheese, annuals, perennials, bedding plants, barbeque sauces, maple syrup, honey, jams and jellies, molasses and various homemade products and crafts.

New this year is the farmers market at The Market Common, DeVille Street Farmer’s Market. This farmer’s market is hosted by the Waccamaw Market Cooperative and The Market Common and will open on May 12^th. The DeVille Street Farmers Market will then be open every Saturday from 8am to 12pm. Items include locally caught seafood from Seven Seas Seafood and produce (when in-season) such as blackberries, blueberries, broccoli, okra, peaches, peppers, cantaloupe, strawberries, watermelon, beans, zucchini, yellow squash, sweet corn, tomatoes and herbs. The DeVille Street Farmers Market also plans to host different local chefs each week and have them offer a live cooking demonstration of a recipe using local produce and seafood.

New York Prime, 405 28th Ave. N: A special a la carte brunch will be served with prices starting at $9. There will also be three cocktails featured at $6-7; Bellini, Mimosa, and Bloody Mary.

Tommy Bahama, 3044 Howard Ave. in The Market Common: There will be a special Mother’s Day brunch served starting at lunchtime continuing through 5pm with special a la carte dishes starting at $12. Starting at 4pm there will be a special Mother’s Day dinner featuring a 14-ounce ribeye and blackened shrimp with whipped chive potatoes, asparagus, and shiitake mushroom demi-glace.

Captain George’s

Located across from Broadway at the Beach, Captain George’s offers a huge buffet in addition to a la carte options. Captain George’s originated in Virginia Beach in the late 1970’s and has grown to include this popular Myrtle Beach location. They pride themselves on offering guests on providing guests with “the ultimate dining experience” by serving fresh seafood in an upscale setting. The buffet features over 70 items like steamed crab legs, shrimp, prime rib and dessert. Children 5-12 eat for ½ price and under 5 eat for free. Sea Captain’s House

Sea Captain’s House has been a Myrtle Beach favorite for both locals and tourists for over 35 years. Bimini’s Oyster Bar & Seafood Café has been in Myrtle Beach since 1985. Mr. Fish
